I passed my test on Monday. Im officially an Oracle Certified Associate. I have worked on this for over a year. I didn’t study solid for that long but I did study pretty consistently. The certification required me to pass a SQL Fundamentals exam and a Oracle Database Administration I exam.

Next up is the Oracle Certified Partner. This is what most DBAs have. I know that anyone can pick up some books and learn enough to pass an exam or two to get a certification and this is the view among some circles in the IT world. To me though it demonstrates that the certified person took the time to go farther than most people. I did all of this on my own. I talked to DBAs around the office when I had questions but I was totally motivated on my own to finish this. My company did not help and for the most part other than the people who have seen me studying, does not even know that I have accomplished this. Im not one to really toot my own horn. I have approached certain people about moving forward in the company of course and they are excited about my accomplishment. For now im taking a break because i am starting school again in a few weeks and will be working on my Masters in MIS. At the same time I will be pursuing my OCP certification as well but that will come towards the end of the year I think. I need a break from pouring over database instructional books for a little bit.
