I installed this light post today. I had to dig the hole and then cement it in the ground making sure not to cover the hole near the bottom of the post. Then I ran wiring and conduit through the ivy over to the corner of the house and up to the eve. I then tied into the floodlight powerline. The light comes on automatically whn it gets dark and it has a power outlet near the bottom so I can plug in random yard ornaments or something if I wanted.  Ive always liked the look of having a light post like this in this type of location because it greets visitors when they come by and allows them to see the side walk a little better. I also plan on adding some landscape lighting in this area also but I still need to sit down and plan and draw it all up. I see it in my head though and it already looks nice. :)

Whats the last thing the dumb redneck said???

…hey….whatch’is

If this is the dumbest thing I have done lately then im doing pretty good.
I had to change the lightbulb over the stairs going down to the basement. It had a globe on it so reaching and changing with a pole changer wasn’t going to work. I had been thinking on this for a few days now and finally came up with this idea. I had a spare 2×4 that I screwed into the floor joist header that was on the other side of the wall there. I made sure to use 4″ screws and lots of them. Shaking, I climbed up and only went up 2 steps. The first thing I did was take the globe off. I figured if I fell after that at least I could use a pole changer…if I survived the fall. I whipped the blown bulb out fast and had the CFL tucked under my chin and slapped it in there quick. I reached over and checked the switch to make sure the bulb worked and then hopped off quick. I made sure I put a CFL up there so I wont have to change the thing for another 5 years.

Here are a couple of interior shots of the first areas that I set up after moving in.

The office…

The music area…I plan on hanging these guitars on hangers from the wall similar to what you would see in a music shop.

This will actually be one of my first big projects…removing this beast. Its savable but I am not going to dare start this thing up while its still inside. I cant imagine the amount of humidity that this thing would pumo into the house. that humidity in the house would then cause mold and mildew build up that would only lead to health and house issues. For now its just a place where stuff has been thrown until I can figure out where some of it needs to go. I plan on taking it out and filling in the hole. Its recessed into the slab so there will be a nice size hole to fill. I plan on saving the shell and possibly adding it onto the back patio later on. Until that happens its going to be stored in the shop.
For filling the hole im going to get some large size rocks as big as I can carry and put in there. Then im going to top off the hole with gravel and add a wire mesh on top. Once that’s complete I am going to fill in with concrete and bring it up to the level of the slab. Ill cover it with some carpet scraps for the moment until I get around to laying the hardwood flooring in the living room.

Here are a few pics to give some perspective on how big this thing is. It could easily handle 6-8 people. It would actually be cool to keep it as a sitting area kind of like houses used to have in the 60′s and 70′s but its just not practical.

…where the playas play.  lol

I actually bought this house back in July but I have not had a chance to write anything about it yet.
Approx 2700 SqFt on 2 acres with a half finished basement. Built in 1980. One thousand SqFt shop with 2 large bays. Might actually have the original carpeting, wallpaper and paint. Original kitchen cabinets, flooring, bathtubs, sinks and vanitys.
The gabled roof and resulting loft area was an addition made in the early 90′s. I believe this was done over either the garage or a small carport area.

Here are a few pictures with captions…

The back patio:

Ancient AC unit and a beat up door:

This is interesting. This is a “dock”. In the front part that you can see there used to be an above ground pool. Behind it is a koi pond but it was full of bass instead. Apparently the former owner was a bass fishing freak:

Side view and garage area:

Barn/Shop:

View from the shop:

Kitchen Dining area…how you like that carpet that was stolen from a bank?:

Master suite…yes the sinks are IN the same room…like a hotel room:

Living room loft:

Living room…yes, that’s a hot tub:

That completes the tour. More info and pictures as the projects are done…
